Update Spring 2008

Miss Gavin and Mrs Reddington have just returned from a British Cou ncil visit to Lithuania. Call into school to see the display or look for the newsletter. Photos of the trip will be appearing on the website shortly.

Update - Autumn 2007

After our fantastic trip to France, further opportunities are now looking possible. Two of our teachers may be able to take part in a visit to learn French in 2008 and it looks very likely that two of our staff will be taking part on an International Professional development visit. Where or when - who knows!!

Update - June 07

Well - International Week was fantastic, Mrs Lord has returned from a great trip to Tanzania, all the children have had a great visit to France and very soon Mrs Barlow will be returning for a visit from Dubai.

See the gallery (page 2)for photograhs of the International Week artwork!!

International Week 4th June - 8th June 2007

This week sees all classes taking part in a wide variety of activities to celebrate International Week. Each year group will be studying a different continent, producing artwork and learning more about the customs and cultures of some of the countries in that continent.

Mrs Lord is in Africa at the moment and we will hopefully be having a live link-up with her later on in the week to see how she has been developing our work with Kishumundu School.

The week after next sees 25 of our children taking part in a trip to France to develop their French language skills and learn more about French culture (as well as a quick trip to Disneyland Paris in the middle).

Tuesday of International Week will involve all classes looking at work associated with World Environment Day - Melting Ice. Children will produce a class canvas of artwork that will be displayed in the "Departure Lounge" or top hall.

It promises to be a fantastic week full of exciting actviities and opportunities for children to research of their own accord. This work will be good preparation for September when the International Primary Curriculum begins.

International Dimension

As a school, all our pupils, staff and parents are encouraged to learn and enjoy what the wider world has to offer. We are very lucky at Chorley New Road. The children learn an awful lot from geography, history, RE, citizenship and many other subjects about other countries, cultures and languages.

For over ten years the school has been linked with Moshi after Mrs Lord's daughter, Natalie, visited two schools there. Every year the school has raised money for Moshi and has been involved in communications between the school and has had a visit from a member of their staff. Hopefully we will be able to send a member of staff back to Moshi very, very soon.

September 2005 saw the introduction of Modern Foreign Languages to Chorley New Road and Madame Oldham arrived in school. We have never looked back since. The children have thoroughly enjoyed the teaching she has done in school, the Times Educational Supplement have written an article about language teaching at Chorley New Road and in the Horwich Cluster and Madame Oldham has been nominated for a BT Teacher of the Year award. What a year!!

Year 5 children are looking forward to our visit to France and we have just managed to create a new link with the Royal School of Dubai. Exciting times!!

Our European Day of Languages was very popular with both children and parents and will be repeated in the Autumn term of 2007. 2006 saw children in Key Stage 2 taking part in Global Citizenship activities arranged by the Rotary Club. Visits to the Peace Centre in Warrington, The Mayor in Bolton and Ruth Kelly/House of Commons provided much enjoyment for the children taking part.

As they say at the Reebok as the teams come out onto the pitch:-

"This is only the beginning!"
